Desperate Tommy Broke Positive Campaign Pledge

Tommy Inc. and his special interest D.C. friends seem to be getting desperate.  One way that you can tell is Rove and the rest of Tommy's sleazy special interest pals have dumped over $20 million in false attack ads against Tammy Baldwin.  The other way is to look at how quickly Tommy Thompson broke his pledge that he wouldn't "say anything bad" about his general election opponent. He indicated that he would take this approach many times before the general election started in earnest.
  • After a Wispolitics.com luncheon in Madison, a reporter approached Thompson with a question about his possible general election opponent, Tammy Baldwin. The reporter said, “You didn’t talk about Tammy Baldwin, you talked about the primary…” Thompson replied, “I don’t talk about my opponents. I’m talking about my vision for America. [Wispolitics Luncheon, 10/17/2011
  •  During a radio interview with Charlie Sykes, Tommy Thompson said, “I’m a positive person, always have been, always will be. I’m going to come up with innovative solutions, I’m not going to attack my opponents, I’m not going to, I’m not going to attack Tammy Baldwin.” [WTMJ AM Charlie Sykes Show, 12/02/2011
  •  In a radio interview in May 2012, Thompson said: “She’s a nice person and I’m not going to say anything bad about her whatsoever.” [WRN interview, 5/31/2012
  •  The Associated Press reported on July 2012, that Thompson said. ‘I'm the most positive, optimistic person ever. I wish we could get back to that.’” [Associated Press, 7/30/12]
Oh how quickly the series of consistently bad polls changed Tommy's behavior. He not only broke his promise to run a "positive" campaign but he went way off the nasty charts.  Tommy was nothing short of a blustering and obnoxious bully during the debates. He  absurdly and repeatedly tried to make Tammy Baldwin out to be a supporter of the brutal Iranian regime until it backfired on him.  He took every dishonest cheap shot that he could but none of that was worse than his questioning of Baldwin's patriotism. It was fully demonstrated in his twisted ad seeking to politicize 9/11.

Apparently Tommy Thompson had his fingers crossed when he promised not to "say anything bad" about Tammy Baldwin.  I'm guessing that he only intended to keep that promise while he thought that he was winning the race.  Since August he has increasingly become desperate and he has equally become increasingly nasty.

This is just another example of how we cannot trust this new, extreme and special interest driven Tommy Thompson.
